PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The latest news I have to share is that just prior to conference, Charles Taylor, our Executive Director submitted his resignation to the Board of Trustees.  I announced it at our closing meeting on Saturday, May 3, 2008.  His resignation will be effective at the annual conference in Albuquerque, NM in 2009.   Applications will be accepted following strict guidelines which were printed in the newsletter as defined by the Personnel Committee. Links to the job description and Executive Director Replacement Policy follow this article. We want to ensure that the people applying understand the entire scope of this position as well as the ability to communicate effectively with the Board of Trustees and others that he/she will come in contact with.  They must also possess good organizational, financial savvy and computer skills. 

We are all very sad to see Charles leave, but he has done an awesome job for NAAP and is a great person to work with.  His dedication, financial knowledge and ability to deal with people have been an amazing triumph for NAAP.  He has helped the board in so many ways and certainly brought NAAP into the future.

No faxes or e-mails will be accepted. I will then submit to the rest of the Personnel Committee for review. Each qualified candidate will be contacted to attend the Mid-Year Board Meeting in Sevierville, Tennessee at your own expense for an interview with the Personnel Committee. 

As Charles leaves NAAP, we know we will always remain close to his heart and that he will stay dedicated to our cause – that of being the premiere association of Activity Professionals.  He also believes that we must keep moving forward with change and innovative ideas in order to keep this association alive and well.  However, it isn’t just up to the Executive Director.  He/she is employed by NAAP and is under direction of the Board of Trustees.  We don’t always agree, but your current board all believe we have to step out, make changes and keep our name in the forefront of all healthcare professionals – Owners, Administrators, Director’s of Nursing and other Activity Professionals.  We must continue to gain their support to continue moving us into the future of health care.  We are facing and dealing with culture change, changes with CMS and the MDS system, tougher surveys and changes in general with healthcare as baby boomers and the younger generations move into our facilities.  We must be ready!  That is why we educate, obtain pertinent government relations information and the latest ideas in the field of healthcare, so that you will be armed and ready for the future.

WE NEED YOU!  We need you as board members, committee members and voting members.  Will you step up and become involved and active in the association that truly supports your needs?  WE HOPE SO!!
