General Standards of Practice
PROVISION OF ACTIVITY SERVICES
1. ACTIVITY ASSESSMENT/PROFILE:
The Activity Professional shall conduct an activity assessment/profile for each client/resident to determine his/her activity needs, interest, preferences, and abilities.
2. ACTIVITY PLAN:
The Activity Professional shall develop an individual, interdisciplinary activity plan with each client/resident. The activity plan shall be based on the resident's/client's activity assessment/ profile and shall be designed to enable each resident/client to achieve and/or maintain his/her highest level of well-being.
3. IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIVITY PLAN:
The Activity Professional shall direct the activity plan and shall involve the interdisciplinary team in the implementation of the individualized interventions as stated in the interruptive guidelines for F-tag 28/249.
4. EVALUATION OF THE ACTIVITY PLAN:
The Activity Professional shall continuously evaluate and document the resident's/client's response to each activity. The revision of the activity plan shall be based on the resident's/client's response to the interventions.
5. ACTIVITY PROGRAM:
The Activity Professional shall be resident/client centered and enable the resident/client to maximize his/her potential in the activity program.
MANAGEMENT OF ACTIVITY SERVICES
6. STAFF CREDENTIALS/EDUCATION:
The Activity Department shall establish a plan to ensure each activity employee is qualified to perform his/her assigned tasks, maintains appropriate credentials, and is provided with opportunities for professional development.
7. PLAN OF OPERATION:
The Activity Department shall have written policies and procedures based on the National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP) Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice; regulatory requirements; facility/corporate requirements, and the standards established by accrediting agencies.
8. RESOURCE UTILIZATION:
The Activity Department shall develop and maintain a plan for identifying, acquiring, and utilizing resources to achieve the department's goals.
9. QUALITY IMPROVEMENT/PROGRAM EVALUATION:
The Activity Department shall develop and implement a systematic and ongoing plan to evaluate the quality, effectiveness, and integrity of the activity services.
10. ETHICAL CONDUCT:
The Activity Professional shall adhere to the NAAP Code of Ethics.
